I love hot chocolates, big cosy blankets, fluffy slippers and just the general laid back and warmth that appears when the festive season is fast approaching.
But for many people, including myself, one of the best things about the colder months is the fashion.
Chunky knits, wooly hats, boots, layering - you name it, I love it all.
When it comes to dressing, I definitely enjoy being comfortable as well as stylish (let me know when pjs become socially acceptable to wear outside of my flat). And as I've developed my personal style throughout this year, I have realised the importance of outerwear and how easy it is to dress (especially for the cold), if you have an abundance of incredible coats and jackets.
During SS, jackets and coats aren't always necessary but as soon as September/October hits, thats when I start to think about how I can stay warm and comfy, but also look the part too. Fashion for me is all about ease and transitioning my wardrobe between seasons is definitely something I try to take into account.
Now that its absolutely freezing, I am slowly but surely incorperating incredible pieces of outwear via the high street and online retailers. I definitely believe a black coat and a practical coat should be everyone's wardrobes staples, but I also like over the top and the statement kind too. But if there's one kind of coat that is perfect for me and the style that I am always gravitating towards, its hands down the oversized kind.
In my opinion the oversized, slouchy, maxi, big, I AM A WALKING PILLOW type coats are just the best. They just look bloody great and can be adapted to suit anyones personal style. The selection on the high street is readily available in different sizes which of course is something that I really promote and appreciate, because your size shouldn't stop you from enjoying fashion. I also enjoy experimenting with styles, patterns and textures. From a faux fur jacket, to a bright red teddy bear coat - as long as its oversized and good quality I am happy.
As we're approaching December and the weather has taken a sudden plummet, its important to recognise that 70% of the time until 2018, our outerwear is going to be seen the most so for me, it has to be on point. It also has to be somewhat practical and can be worn with multiple different outfits already in my wardrobe. Coats can be expensive so if you're on a budget buy ones that will last years and take your time to build your coat collection.
So whether you're looking for a simple coat you can throw on for a last minute dash to the supermarket, or a sophisticated number to wear to a business brunch
- I hope in this post I've got you covered.
Top tip: if a coat you like isn't oversized, size up 1 or 2x so it is!
