Hands up if you love Thai food *raises both hands*. Simon & I hadn’t had a proper date for about 3 months (I wish I were joking but sadly not). Our lives are so busy that when we do spend time together its normally with a takeaway on the sofa lol..
We decided a few Fridays ago that it was time to go out and spend some quality time together. We obviously went shopping and had cookies too because thats just what you do init? But first stop was Busaba Eathai We were absolutely starving so I suggested to eat at this place (I had been once before and loved it) & it was Simon’s first time..
What is it about Thai prawn crackers that taste amazing? They are so much better than Chinese ones lol. We ordered these as our starter because we were that hungry, we just couldn’t wait for the rest. The sweet chilli dip was so good, definitely not out of a bottle like most places serve.
For our nibbles (we basically ordered the entire menu lol) we had satay chicken, salt & pepper calamari & king prawns. We both loved everything except the satay chicken sauce. It was lumpy and not smooth which kinda put me off. It was fine to eat but I wasn’t jumping for joy over it. The calamari was INSANE – the best calamari I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and I loved that it wasn’t coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried. It wasn’t oily at all which makes me happy. The prawns were also damn tasty! The spicy oyster sauce dip was the best past for me. I was dipping everything and anything into that. I guess its an acquired taste as Busaba Eathai is authentic Thai food but my taste buds were tingling.
For mains (we shared everything) we ordered the Pad Kwetio & the Mussaman Curry. I wish I could grab all of your faces and shove your face into this food LOL, both dishes were just incredible. The Pad Kwetio was super filing, tasty and just jnjvnsjvnonvngswnvgwno words fail me. The noodles were cooked perfectly – really soft and flavoursome. The portion was just enough & the vegetables, chicken and prawns were all super freaking delicious. I can’t even describe the taste but if you visit, please order this, you won’t be disappointed. I love duck and I love curry so of course we had to order the Mussaman Curry. The dish was massive and we did leave behind quite a lot of the sauce, but I assure you the duck was gone. This particular dish was super wholesome, filled with duck, veg and potatoes. It wasn’t spicy which surprised me but it was still utterly beautiful. I literally cannot wait to go back. We also ordered some sticky rice to dip into the curry sauce. Super authentic and delicious 😉
Simon & I went on a Friday night which may have been a mistake. We had to wait a long time for our sides and mains after our prawn crackers & we also had to wait a long time before we were seated. The service was good but I wasn’t blown away. Busaba Eathai was busy, bustling but chilled and cool. I would love to go back for a late lunch or early dinner so its a bit more quiet.
You guys seriously need to visit this place. I am literally blown away by it. I have also reviewed another Thai place called Giggling Squid which is also delicious.
