We are approaching that time of year where we head to the shops, grab a coffee and part with a lot of money. Next week, December arrives which means we can officially get in the Christmas mood (although tbh, I've been feeling festive since October).
I don't know about you but I feel there is something in the air this year with gift giving. Maybe its the god awful political stuff that's gone on, natural disasters and so much tragedy, but I feel even more compelled to make someone smile this Christmas.
I am sort of proud but also embarrassed to say, that I have actually already finished my Christmas shopping lol. I did it a few weeks ago from the comfort of my couch, but this year I shopped a little differently.
If you know me, you'd know I'm a generous person and this year is no different - I've definitely spoilt my loved ones, but I've also taken the time to really think about the gifts they'd like to receive. Instead of popping into Boots for a 3for2, I decided to splash some cash on independent stores and sellers - websites like Etsy!
Independent sellers just seem to put more thought into their products. There is usually no mass production involved, therefore you tend to find unique and individual pieces - the kinda stuff that you might not find elsewhere. Don't get me wrong - I love the high street and other well known brands, but there is something more magical and special about gift giving when its handmade, or designed and produced by y'know - just a regular badass human.
I also think it's important to talk about how expensive the festive season can be. I know in the past I've felt huge pressure to buy great gifts and then felt guilt when I couldn't live up to my own expectations. But this year I'm really championing 'its the thought that counts', and alleviating that pressure, by giving gifts that really mean something, will make someone laugh or are practical and useful - not just a bit of tat that gets forgotten by January.
So taking all of this into account, I've decided to share with you a few gift ideas that really say 'it's the thought that counts', all available on Etsy.
Now, I know getting thick brown grandad socks aren't the most thought out present, however - personalised or slogan socks in your stocking are quite the winner right? These ones are great for any wine lovers in your life & an item that will certainly cause a few laughs on Christmas morning. I definitely need some that say 'if you can read this then please pass me a large bar of chocolate', lol. As I get older I really appreciate presents like socks, pjs and slippers haha.

Over the past few years plants have become super popular with pretty much everyone lol. They have swept through the blogosphere and are seen so much throughout Pinterest and Instagram and I can see why. Other than being aesthetically pleasing, plants radiate energy and purify the air so they are a great thing to have throughout your home. Whether it's cacti, mini succulents or a coffee plant - there is something for everyone and at reasonable prices. Plant pots and stands are also a really good gift and added bonus 😉 If someone bought me an amazing plant this Christmas I would be so happy lol. They really add something to my home.
What is it about stationery that is just so bloody wonderful. I know it's not for everyone, but it's such a good gift for people that love it. January is all about new goals and new opportunities, and I feel like having a new notepad, some stickers and snazzy new pens really helps to get you motivated when you've literally been eating roast potatoes in a onesie for a few weeks lol. Personalised or sassy stationery is right up my street and is a great gift for people who are studying, starting a new job or maybe even a blogger that's trying to boss her way through 2018. I love the slogan on this pink notepad as a little reminder to kick ass, when I'm feeling unmotivated. I would also buy a beautiful notepad for someone that is struggling with their mental health. Writing down your thoughts and putting pen to paper can really help with processing trauma or emotions. Stationery is really affordable too!
I'm not much of fan of jewellery unless its gold earrings or gold rings and Etsy has such a wide selection of both. Jewellery is usually pretty generic and pricey to buy, so independent sellers for these are definitely the way to go. From beautiful gem stones to simple stacking rings - there is something for any jewellery lover. A ring with a birthstone in, or some handmade earrings are precious and so thoughtful. I don't know about you but i'd be happy to receive any of those for Christmas (hint hint hint to any of my friends or family that might read this LOL)
Maybe I'm now becoming a boring adult lol but homeware and practical stuff that is a need and not necessarily a want, is something I really enjoy giving AND receiving. From posh crockery to lamps, to more affordable stuff like candles and mugs. These ceramic mugs are bloody amazing and so so cute (they're ceramic, homemade and insanely good quality) - a great gift for tea drinkers which is pretty much 99.9% of the general British public lol. Nearly everyone I know loves a good mug and I'm no different. Whether its to have at home, or the office - a good mug is a necessity, especially during the colder months. And to make this gift even better, why not pair it with a selection of teas too!
Would you like more gift guides? I'm planning lots of mental health Christmas content but let me know if you want a heads up on present ideas.
Thanks to Etsy for working with me on this post.
