Im not really sure how to start this post. I guess I'll start by saying I often get asked how I stay happy, how I stay positive and how I keep going. Truth is, I don't. Im only human and although it might look like my day is going splendidly well, sometimes I just want to cry and hide. I am only human..

So now that you know that I'm not always happy and sometimes I want to kill someone, maybe numerous people lol, I do have some tips that help me feel happier. Happiness for me is very much a long journey that takes time and dedication. We unfortunately live in a world where being happy can be somewhat hard. There are many factors behind someones unhappiness, including mine but I hope today you can take something away from how I have become happier.

Lead a healthy lifestyle.
For me, food and exercise affects my overall health and happiness. If I eat good, I feel good.. And I think that goes for most people. Leading an active and healthy lifestyle will make you feel happier. Yup, its effort to begin with but when you get that happy feeling, it will spur you on to continue. Its not about losing weight or trying to get into a smaller pair of jeans, its about looking after your body from the inside out.

Learn how to de-stress.
Everyone needs coping mechanisms and ways to de-stress and unwind. If its reading a good book, running a few laps, singing, meditating, yoga or simply watching Youtube videos with a face mask on, learn how to let go of that stress. I personally like a glass of milk with some sort of biscuit or chocolate bar & The Big Bang Theory. Other times I watch Youtube videos or I meditate. Its important to know and listen to what your mind and body needs. Make time for it!

Talk about your problems.
If you're unhappy or you're not okay, don't keep it to yourself. Misery enjoys company so you'll just feel even worse about yourself or the situation. Speak up and open up. Even if you can't physically talk to someone, send a text or write your feelings down to show someone later. Our minds often get congested with unhappy and negative thoughts. Get them out girl!

Stop being so hard on yourself.
This little tip resonates with me as its the one I find most difficult. You're not perfect and you never will be so stop picking at every little imperfection. If you f**k up, apologise and move on. Don't dwell on things that won't matter in a few years time. Haven't been to the gym in a month? Its not the end of the world. Pick yourself up and get back into it. Stop being so hard on yourself, you're doing just fine.

Do things that make you feel happy.
If it makes you happy, do it. If it make you unhappy, don't. Don't over complicate this, question and ask why. No buts or what ifs. Just do it. Do things that make you happy and you'll feel happier. Tomorrow isn't promised.

Find what inspires you/reassures you.
We all need to feel inspired and reassured. If I'm sad or anxious and generally unhappy, I read quotes or listen to songs. I feel reassured when reading or hearing words that make me see things differently. Watching uplifting talks on Youtube also makes me feel better. The journey of happiness is a personal one so find what makes you feel better and turn to it. Your puppy, your mum & even reading a blog. It doesn't matter how weird or sad you think it is, do it!!!!
